Frosty Mountain Trail Race

2011 Race Report

The 4th annual Frosty Mountain Ultra took place on September 17th 2011.  With even more racers then the previous year it proved to be a great success.  There was a bit of early morning showers but shortly after the first runners were out ,the sun tried to make its way out as well.  The first half of the day flew by for us down at the base; hopefully it flew by for the runners as well.  Before we knew it the first racers from the lighting distance were already finishing along with our speedy 50k runners had already past the half way point.

I want to send out a personal thank you to all the volunteers.  Including all the people behind the scene and those spectators who ended up helping wherever needed.  Everybody did an amazing job and the race would not have been a success without you.  One of the most important tasks of feeding the hungry racers was made possible by our expert barbeque assemblers who got the grill up and going just in the nick of time.

Aside from a few bumps and bruises the race finished with no major incident.  We had some amazing times this year and a new record for the 13k race.  Thank you for making the Frosty Mountain race a great success and thank you to everyone who gave donations to the charity I support.  I hope I will see everyone next year to celebrate our 5th anniversary!

I just want to leave you with this note for our first time racers next year.   I'm sure everyone has been here at some point.

I just wanted to thank you for organizing this event.  It was way beyond my abilities and 10 times harder than anticipated (it would have helped if the informative email you sent below actually made its way into my brain), but I did it and am so glad.  This run pushed me outside my comfort zone like nothing else has for decades and it has imprinted on me in an amazing way.  At the peak of Frosty Mt. I would have said I would never in a million years do it again, yet doing it was so cool, even though it took me so long, that I am totally game to do it again next year.  The thing I really hated was not knowing how far I was, and I pushed way too hard for the first hour and a half and then was exhausted (the opposite of what you recommended - how dumb I know).  Yet the thing I am trying to break free of is consciousness of distance and towards the end that goal almost became a reality.

Thanks so much for all the effort organizing this event.  Ellie
